Fr Willie Doyle Tribunal

Father Doyle was an Irish Jesuit priest who served as a British Army Chaplain in World War One and gave his life ministering to soldiers at the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917.  Since then, his cult has been strong and Bishop Tom opened the Diocesan Tribunal for the Cause of his Canonisation in 2022 with the approval of the Holy See.  The Investigation has progressed well; the Historical Commission, the Theological Investigation and the Tribunal itself have now almost concluded.

Accordingly, the Public Concluding Session of the Tribunal will occur after the celebration of Vespers in the Cathedral of Christ the King in Mullingar on Sunday, October 18th 2026 at 4.00pm.

This is the first Diocesan Tribunal to conclude in Ireland for over forty years.  After that ceremony, the documentation will be transmitted to the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints in Rome.   Interest in the concluding ceremony is strong and as well as British and Irish Army representatives, people have informed this office that they will be travelling from the United Kingdom and the United States also.

All are welcome to attend the celebration of Vespers in the Cathedral on Sunday, October 18th at 4.00pm.

Diocesan Clergy who would like to attend will be very welcome and are invited to wear Choral Dress.
